We’ve decided that, for now, purchasing a television and signing up for a cable package isn’t necessary. We’re enjoying the view from our new place so much that there’s certainly no lack of entertainment!

Right below us in the Olympic Sculpture Park, we’ve watched:

Art classes, yoga classes and fitness classes.

Wedding celebrations and birthday parties.

Bald eagles soaring and hunting. Gulls floating every which way along with the wind currents. Geese effortlessly skimming the surface of the water.

A weekly market filled with farm-fresh fruits, vegetables and flowers of every brilliant color imaginable.

Jazz concerts, blues concerts, classical music concerts.

Enormous super cargo freight ships arriving from anywhere and everywhere across the globe. Tiny kayaks racing by at the arms of determined paddlers.

Storms rolling in and then being blown out, making for the most glorious cloud formations. Sun showers falling on the greenery. Fog so thick and soft that it totally obscures the land beyond the Sound, making us feel like we could be on an ocean coast.

A white full moon suspended on a string above the Sound, a silver crescent moon doing the same.

Children running about, playing, skipping and laughing. Older couples holding hands quietly while examining Serra’s Wake or Calder’s Eagle.

The majestic Olympic Mountain range running south to north. Green and lush at the bottom, snow-packed near the peaks.

Pink, violet, golden—the type of colors we’ve seen in places like Yosemite, Glacier and Big Bend National Parks. But until now, hadn’t imagined we’d capture so regularly in the middle of metropolitan Seattle.

Oh, and the sailboats. Not once have we looked out and not seen a sailboat. Perhaps our future right there, before our very eyes.

It’s been blissful.
